I’ve never imagined in my wildest dream that online schooling from home everyday would be our children’s regular routine on a daily basis. When you think about it, it’s crazy how much has changed since the beginning of 2020! Every day I am reminded that we should never take anything for granted. What we think as our normal could be changed in the blink of an eye.
At the same time, I am grateful for having more time with my children. It brings me joy to be able to get a glimpse of my children’s school life in different spaces of our home. Don’t get me wrong. I agree that it’s not an ideal way of learning. There are tough days in our house, too. I especially struggled assisting my 3rd grader during the first 4 months of it. Yet I’m a believer of every situation’s having a silver lining.
YOGA ROOM TO A STUDY ROOM
Since our children are doing online schooling full time, we’ve arranged our home in order to accommodate the needs of our kids’ education.
During the lockdown back in March and April, we changed our 2nd floor balcony to a study area so that my kids can be outside for a little bit during the day. You can see our balcony transformation here.
We brought the new table I bought from SM Home in Manila inside into the yoga room and brought two chairs from our kids’ rooms. This instant room conversion is nothing noteworthy, but I wanted to show how we have made use of spaces in our house in Manila, Philippines. These photos will always remind us of the special time we are living in during the pandemic in 2020.

At the beginning of the first semester in 2020, my oldest daughter used to meet up with her friends to study on a daily basis. Eventually kids figured out that it’s more efficient to work on their own sometimes. Anyways, I managed to capture some of the scenes at home during the online school day.
Below are some photos from our first day of school in August.
Here is a list of some of the things that I have enforced and encouraged my kids to do.
1. My children have to clean up their study areas at the end of the day. They cannot leave their school materials on a desk or table even thought they will need them again on the following day. I find this important.
2. Get dressed in the morning as if they go to real face-to-face school.
3. Eat breakfast. My oldest doesn’t always follow, but we try.
4. Have an off-screen time during each break. If possible, walk around or go outside to refresh.
5. Make lunch on their own. They can simply reheat leftovers from the previous night or cook on their own.
6. No screen time after school. My older two are not always good about doing so as they like to chat with their friends after school, but we try.
