When I traveled to Ubud, Bali in May 2013 with my girl friend, her sister and her friends who came from the U.S., one of the activities that the group wanted to sign up for was a white water rafting tour. My first thought that crossed in my head when I heard that they wanted to do white water rafting was that I was not sure if I had the courage to say yes. At 37, I have never experienced white water rafting. I was worried. Then I thought, this would be a life time experience. I might not be able to go back to Bali or even if I do, it won’t be for a long time. If I have this opportunity, why don’t I take it? I also heard that it’s safe and the speed is not too fast. Ayung River is classified as Class II and Class III. I would say our experience was probably Class II, which was perfect for me. Having done it, I am so glad that I tried the white water rafting by Graha Adventure in Ubud, Bali. The scenery was breathtaking and I had so much fun!!!
My friend used Graha Adventure. I don’t remember paying as much as the rate listed on the site. I read on the Tripadvisor that the rate is better if you book in Bali. Maybe that’s what happened to us, too. The rate includes the shuttle bus service from and to the hotel.
I can tell you that Graha Adventure was good to us and their white water rafting package in the morning was great. After we finished the white water rafting tour, we got on the shuttle bus and drove back to the rest point where the lunch was prepared. We skipped the lunch which was included in the tour by Graha Adventure, asked the tour guide to drive us back to our hotel and took shower there. It was the second to the last of our days in Ubud, Bali and we wanted to maximize our time in the Ubud city, too.
Since I had been a mom for 8+ years, I had not done anything like white water rafting for a long time. I can’t remember when was the last time when I did an activity like that. It was truly fun and relaxing at the same time. I would love to go back to Ubud, Bali with my family and try the white water rafting with my husband and our kids. I would say that I would like to wait until my youngest to get to the 4th grade or so to try white water rafting as a family. It’s just to be on the safe side even though it felt very safe to me, it’s still dealing with the water and nature. Some parents would have different opinions, I’m sure.

What an exciting experience! The scenery looks amazing. I agree that it’s definitely something that would be fun as a family, too. I went white water rafting in Austria once, and it was just breathtaking. Of course, I’m not a very strong swimmer so I was very nervous at the same time. The guide started throwing people overboard as a joke when we were passing through calm waters, and I was afraid that if he threw me I’d be taken away by the current! Luckily, he didn’t 😉

I would hate to be thrown into the water! I hear you about the current. What an experience for you to go white water rafting in Austria!!

I had a blast! For the first timer, the rapids and the amount of water was just perfect. I think I went during a good season as well. I was not scared at all, but it was still thrilling enough. I would love to go back with my kids when they are a bit older!
