I found this gold Christmas tree in Jakarta at a Christmas bazaar and I am so glad I bought it! I can’t remember which vendor I bought this from, but they go to all the holiday bazaars that happen in Jakarta, so you will recognize them. I’m sorry I’m not helpful over here…
I absolutely love this Santa Claus candle which I purchased from the Pottery Barn. There is no way that I can light him. Look at his cute belly and his short arms resting on it! He’s absolutely adorable.
My talented jewelry maker friend made this Christmas tree with beads and gave it to me. It’s one of my favorite decoration I have. She probably doesn’t realize how much I have admired it all these years. I should tell her, shouldn’t I?
Elf On A Shelf
Every year we have a little visitor that Santa Claus sends called “Elf on A Shelf”. He moves around in our apartment every night and watches our kids. We love this tradition every year, but it can put my very forgettable self (or my husband) in trouble by forgetting to move him before we go to bed. I already had 2 mornings this month where the kids exclaimed “the elf didn’t move!” and I’m thinking “oh, shiiiiii-it!!!!!” Then my husband and I come up with a silly reason why he didn’t move and I notice that our oldest daughter, 9-year-old’s eyes get thin while thinking about something. She has already said a couple of times “it didn’t move because Mom forgot to move.” Man, you know me too well, but why blame only me? What about your dad?
There are two things you need to know about our Christmas tree.
1. We can’t hang our silver or gold glass ornaments below certain height, so some of them remained in a box because of our cheeky son. He is at the age where he’s into un-decorating and messing with the tree. Oh, boy.
2. Normally we light our Christmas tree, but we are still waiting on a transformer to be able to plug our tree. If we plug this tree with lights for 110V to a 220V outlet here, the lights will burn and be killed. Not good.
Our Christmas decoration is what we have collected over the years. Because we move every 3 years, my rule is to not own more items than what we can put in 3 big tubs (which I bought from Target).
Many of the Christmas decoration I own were purchased at the Christmas Bazaar with imported items from Germany at the Kadena Air Base Gift Shop on Okinawa Island, Japan. It was the best Christmas bazaar and to this day, I miss it!!
You might be wondering what I was doing in Okinawa, Japan. My family and I lived in Okinawa, Japan from 2006 to 2008 for my husband’s job. Okinawa is where our middle child was born. My best friend, Meredith, is the founder of a blog Okinawa Hai! and I was one of the early contributors she recruited when it was first launched as Okinawa Hai!. I couldn’t help mentioning it here as I learned a lot about blogging through being part of Okinawa Hai!

Thanks, ma! Picking up a decoration as a souvenir is a great idea! You carry home your sweet memories. Yes, I think that a lot of these tin art crafts are from Bali! I wish Bali was closer to India.

It is definitely fun and cute. Today the elf is sitting inside the bird cage. Kind of funny…

I am officially jealous. Is that wall of shelves displaying your lovely decorations part of the house? I love them! And then scrolling down, you have the Concept Modo long metal and wood table that I had been eyeing here in Ankara for way too long. It is no longer on display. I kept telling myself it would have been too heavy to take with us easily, but seeing in your lovely home makes me long for it still. Enjoy it well – it is a wonderful piece!

Hi, Nomads by Nature! The wall of shelves was part of the apartment. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked into our apartment in Mumbai. The metal and boat wood entertainment center was purchased in Jakarta, Indonesia at a store called KOI Kemang. It’s my favorite store when I lived in Jakarta. I thought about the same thing and I cannot look at things without thinking about the weight we’ll accumulate for our next move. I worried about the same thing, but I knew that if I didn’t buy it, I would regret, so I purchased it a couple of months before our departure from Jakarta. t’s actually not as heavy as other entertainment centers.
