Among tropical flowers, orchids, especially the white ones, are one of my favorites. They are beautiful, elegant, and the best of all, long lasting. I learned about a company you can ordered potted orchids from in Manila thanks to my Filipino friend. She had suggested her husband the orchids as an idea for mother’s day gift to help him during lockdown. A photograph of the gorgeous white orchids in a white ceramic pot with her adorable son on her social media feed looked amazing. What a great idea! I followed the trend.

MY MINI MISTAKE
What I should have done was to check the price before I told my husband about it. My friend has already told me that she didn’t know the price since her husband had ordered them. I thought, we’re in the Philippines, how expensive could they be? It turned out that these orchids my husband ordered were USD 100! Yikes! I found out the price because my husband had a hard time ordering on the phone and I happened to be there. When I learned that they cost USD 90+ (and the delivery fee of USD 10 on top of it), my jaw dropped and I hollered, “Cancel it!! Please!” Had I known, I would have not suggested it to my husband. I felt terrible to have asked for such an expensive gift… It was meant to help him, but I’m afraid that it cost him a lot! My sweet husband bought them anyways, though. He probably couldn’t back out at that point. It was 3 days before Mother’s Day and he didn’t know any alternative, either. My husband asked for a white pot (because I instructed…), but the flowers came in a black pot. Thus, I covered the pot with our basket as my solution. They do look gorgeous and brighten our days.
ORCHIDS FOR A GIFT IN THE TROPICS
If you live in the tropics and you don’t know what to get for your special person, one thing I would suggest is orchids. They do make a great gift. They last for a long time even with me who pretty much kills every single plant that comes into my home including succulents. Orchids come in various colors. You can find out different meanings of different colors of orchids here.

My dad always gave mother a white orchid for Easter. White symbolized her mom had passed. He gave Penny lilac orchid corsage. I always had a carnation corsage on Easter. I love orchids.
