THE BAD CAFE
The Bad Cafe is an up and coming trendy and stylish joint for coffee, tapas and yoga which opened in December 2015. What a combination! Do you agree? When I first heard that a very stylish tapas cafe opened in Bandra, I couldn’t really picture what it would look like until I saw their stunning website.
When you walk on a small road to get to the restaurant, you make a turn and all of a sudden an edgy and stylish black building pops up in front of you. As you walk into a chic minimalist cafe with a black and white interior, it almost feels like you walked into a cafe somewhere in Europe. The cutting edge interior and exterior of the cafe and studio were designed by Nuru Karim, founder and principal architect of Nu.De, a Mumbai based international design firm. His work with The Bad Cafe was featured on Elle Decor India. I find Nuru Karim’s work mind-blowing and inspiring. Some of the work in Mumbai by Nu.De you might recognize is Hinduja Boutique Hospital and British Brewing Company.
What is The BAD Cafe? Why BAD? One of the co-founders and siblings, Amit Dhanani was in the cafe working, so I asked him. He said it was an abbreviation for “Bringing A Difference”. He is a chef by trade and also a song writer and composer. Both Bhavna Dhanani, another half of the co-founders and siblings, and Amit Dhanani are Indians of origin, but were both brought up in Spain. They came back to their roots in Mumbai to open this cafe and yoga studio. Bhavna is a yoga instructor and teaches Ying Yoga, a slow yoga with each asana taking 2 to 3 minutes where it works as meditation.
I have not ordered food there yet since I went to take photos of the cafe quickly before my son’s pickup time so that I can show you The Bad Cafe. I did not have enough time to eat, but I am saving it to go back with my friends to enjoy the food with good company. I love Spanish tapas! I have already heard from my friends who have gone there to eat that the food was wonderful. I ordered a cup of coffee called Piccolo. If you like more milk than coffee, I recommend it. There are way better food writers and critics out there than I am, so you can read about the food elsewhere. In fact, The Bad Cafe was written up by Vogue India and my favorite Brown Paper Bag.
I hope you enjoy my photos!

BODY
Bhavna teaches yoga in this beautiful space in the mornings. This studio is also converted into a restaurant space when it is not used for yoga classes. My immediate thought when I saw the space with tables and chairs was that this would allow you to go there with a big group.
