How was your weekend? Ours was great. Busy. Those flowers in above pictures were purchased at the flea market in Eastern Market in Washington, D.C. (which I will talk about later) by my husband and girls and given to me for Mother’s Day. They add an uplifting colors to our living room and the fragrance of the flowers remind me of the fabulous day I had with them.
This year Mother’s Day and my husband’s birthday both fell on the same day. I felt sorry for my husband since I wanted his birthday to be the only focus on the very day, but the world around us was all about Mother’s Day. We went to a diner for a birthday celebratory breakfast in the morning and then headed to a flea market at Eastern Market for a Mother’s Day afternoon. As you might already know from this post about Brooklyn Flea, I love going to flea markets.
Silver Diner
We walked away from the Silver Diner full. You know what? I forgot to take photos of our food. My husband also does not like me to make everyone pause when the food is served so that I can take silly pictures for my blog. Therefore, it was for the best. Honestly, I was too starving to take photos. We love Sunday breakfast/brunch and we, especially my husband, enjoy coming to Silver Diner for breakfast. I like going to diner because of the retro design and decoration. I find it very American. It’s like time traveling back to the 50’s. We’ve visited Silver Diner in Clarendon area of Arlington, VA numerous times in the past year and a half and we’ll certainly miss this joint after we leave. When we first went back to Silver Diner after we had come back to the D.C. metropolitan area, my second child was 10 months old. Now she can sit in a booster seat. Life is certainly moving on.
Anyways, Happy Birthday to my hubby!
After we left Silver Diner, we headed to the well-known flea market at Eastern Market in Washington, D.C. I haven’t been to too many flea markets, but I want to say this flea market at Eastern Market was one of the best flea markets I’ve been to.
Flea Market at Eastern Market
Calamarie
I stopped at this jewelry store as I overheard the vendor explaining to her customers that the jewelry pieces she sold were made of natural materials such as orange peel. Everything produced by Calamarie is made with natural and recycled materials; fique, wood, iraca palm & tagua. I asked if the seeds on a pink brooch would break eventually as it was made of seeds. She told me that it wouldn’t as the material was called tagua or vegetable ivory and was known for its durability. I was quite intrigued by the jewelry pieces that derived from the creativity and consciousness to conserve the environment.
They were eye-catching. Each piece looked delicate and original. I like the big wall hangings, which find unique and gorgeous. I’ve never seen anything like that before.
What I covered here is merely a small part of this big flea market at Eastern Market. There is a lot of great food at the flea market as well, but because I was so full from breakfast, I couldn’t make myself look at food. That was too bad! If you ever visit Washington, D.C., I hope you will make time to go to the flea market at Eastern Market which happens every Sunday all year round!
It was an impeccable day. Funny thing was that it quite windy at the Flea Market at Eastern Market in D.C. just like the day we went to Brooklyn Flea in NYC during our trip there. I felt bad for my husband that his birthday was a bit overshadowed by Mother’s Day. We celebrated his birthday a bit on Saturday, a day before, so I hope that compromised!
