Photos were taken by my 5-year-old daughter.
When I looked at these photos, I thought that I needed to state that I was/am not pregnant (no need!). I purchased this gown online two years ago. Without trying it out. I know. Bold. It was not cheap, either. What was I thinking? I have a good excuse for you, though. I was pregnant at the time.
My breast is small (sadly, but what can I do?), so I picked a dress based on my chest size. I should have measured myself before picking a size. Dugh?! Women who have gotten pregnant know that when they get pregnant, their lower rib cage expands on top of the change in their breast size. I underestimated the rib cage size change. I could not fit in it when I was pregnant and I had to make a ball gown in a rush. You can see it here.
The following year, I was still nursing twice a day, but my breast size has shrunk, so I thought that maybe I could squeeze myself in. Not a chance. I wore a dress that I purchased 2 years prior to that year which I did not get to wear as the gown arrived after the banquet. My luck! However, the upside of it is that I got to wear it in 2012. Here is the photo of the gown.
So finally, at my third trial, I was able to zip up my dress!!! Hooray!!! I. could. not. breath… Joke aside, it was fortunate that I was able to put it on because otherwise I would have just worn the dress I wore last year. I could not motivate myself to find a tailor, pick a design, find a fabric and have it tailor-made. That’s a lot of work! I am very glad it worked out.
I went to Jean-Claude Biguine for my evening updo. I never go get my hair done. When I got married, I had short hair, so I just styled it myself. The last three years when I was in Jakarta, I didn’t do get my hair done, either. I just can’t justify paying that kind of money. It’s just not my priority. But this year, I thought I’d try it. It was fun! However, when I looked at the bill, my chin dropped. INR 4000. This is about US$65 with the current exchange rate. With a tip it ended up being US$70. That was expensive to me and I was shocked to learn that a hair updo can cost that much in India. I was, however, glad I did it because I think the hair complimented the dress. I finally understand that there is a reason why people get their hair done professionally for dressing up.
This is the only photo I have with my husband for this year. I didn’t want to drag my camera out to a venue when I’m wearing my gown. It does not look good. My big camera does not fit in my small clutch, either. I’m happy that I took some photos before we left.

You looked fab!! Although yes, for a moment I was wondering if you are pregnant, but that’s just my preggie alarm going off considering I’m pregnant myself. I can’t wait for my rib cage (and everywhere else) to shrink back to what they used to be!! Love those pink pants by the way.

Thank you, Robyn! Congratulations to you!!! Enjoy being pregnant! I love these pants, too, especially, I bought them on sale!!

Love the gown Kaho, and yes the hair up do, compliments your whole look, very classy/elegant. Your blog makes me realize how lucky I have been, having my mom make my gowns in the pass. What a great photographer little Y has become 🙂

Can I just say you look absolutely stunning? I think the dress looks great on you! (Your daughter is quite the photographer, too!) I have to agree about pregnancy and breast size–it really messes with your entire wardrobe!
And lastly, I gotta say you have a very handsome husband! You guys are one good-looking couple 😉 No wonder your kids are gorgeous!

Miwa, thank you for all the compliments! You’re so sweet!
