Indonesian Lunch/
I went to Rumah Tanah Baru with an Indonesian Heritage Society group a while back. We had a tour of a house first, then made some ceramics and after completing the ceramics, we all had lunch. It was a nice day with fun activities! It was one of my favorite visits I have done with the Indonesian Heritage Society group. Rumah Tanah Baru is located south of Jakarta. From the central Jakarta, it would take about an hour or so depending on the traffic. The house and ceramic studio of Rumah Tanah Baru are owned by F. Widayanto, a ceramic artist. If you are interested in learning about F. Widayanto, you can read about him here. Rumah Tanah Baru even has separate small guest houses and you can stay there as well. If you like making ceramics, it would be a fun place to go with some out of town visitors if they do as well. It wasn’t that far from Jakarta, but it still felt like I was in a different world. It took a couple of weeks for our ceramics to be done, so if you take your house guests, you might have to mail the final products to your friends.
In terms of design, I found many pretty ceramic decorative pieces placed inside the house and outside in the garden, which made Rumah Tanah Baru very unique. I find Indonesian ceramics absolutely beautiful. They remind me of Japanese ceramics and make me feel at home.

It might be after the summer. There are a couple of activities left with our group, so I will let you know if there is any space for non-members of our group. Come to think of it, I haven’t heard from my group about the upcoming event. Hummmm…
