ROCKPORT ART FESTIVAL
Rockport Center for the Arts has held an annual art exhibition on July 4th weekend called Rockport Art Festival since 1969. We had a chance to go to the 42nd Rockport Art Festival at the Rockport Beach Park this past summer with my husband’s dad, his wife and her sister-in-law. It was all American summer experience and we had a great time at the festival viewing all the art pieces created by the artists in Texas. I saw a piece that I would’ve loved to take home, but I couldn’t imagine carrying it onto the airplane with my two girls with bunch of bags, my computer and camera. Needless to say, I gave it up. Someday. If you visit Texas during summer, try to drive out to Rockport, a little town on the Gulf of Mexico in Texas near Corpus Christi for the July 4th, spend a couple of days there and visit the Rockport Art Festival!
SUSHI LUCK
Am I so Japanese? I was curious, so we went. The owner of Sushi Luck is a Japanese couple who lived in Houston for many years. They moved out to Rockport a couple of years ago to open up a restaurant, Sushi Luck. In a city with a population of 9,846 (2009), there are 5 Japanese people according to the owner. Rockport is a summer resort town with many beach homes. The busiest time of the year for service industry like restaurants is summer as you can imagine. They work hard. The fish comes fresh from Houston. The sushi was good and I enjoyed every bite of my chirashi sushi (mixed sashimi on rice). It reminded me of home. I visited their home page. It has a very cool tab on their page called More Japanese which is a section about Japanese cultural items.

BLUE BELL ICE CREAM
My husband and I like to give our girls an after-dinner treat sometimes. We took our girls to Blue Bell Ice Cream Shop in Rockport. The current owners are a Korean and Japanese couple. We found out that they became the new owners two years ago. The wife is a sweet Japanese lady and we always enjoy visiting the ice cream shop and see how they are doing. My husband and our first daughter’s favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip ice cream. My mom likes it, too. Our second daughter picked strawberry because it’s pink. She’s such a “Pinkalicious“.

Your {little} gals are as adorable as ever!
And that snippet of curry rice makes me really hungry at this 2:30 AM ….yabai!
I am also the same way – whenever we travel within US – if there is an Indonesian restaurant, I’d be super tempted to try it – and we usually do try it. I think if we went to Japan and found an Indonesian resto, I’d do the same!

Thanks!! There is an Indonesian restaurant in Georgetown, DC and I have always wanted to try, but I haven’t. I’m sure I will when we get back there! 🙂 Here in Indonesia there are plenty of options for Japanese cuisine that I have to figure out which ones are good. 🙂 I feel lucky.

Hi, Kaho san. Your family had such a wonderful vacation, full of entertainment!
It has been such a joy to read your beautiful pictures of your cute girls and scenery. Each picture can be a card that you could sell at souvenier stores or something:-) Finally, I could launch my new blog and may I invite you? I hope I can have readers who can enjoy reading mine like I read yours! My blog is about food and maybe some travel dialogues, as well. But I am not sure yet how it will turn out.

i love the paper crafts! so cute, i would love to have them in my room, lol. Anyway, yes i recommend you the nail spa at Cikajang: Koo Koo. However, it’s a bit expensive, IDR 165,000 for manicure & pedicure, and IDR 70,000 more if you want to put the nail polish also. But i’m not sure about the nail art (the nail art options are various!) There are other cheaper places for mani & pedi, such as Evergreen. But of course Koo Koo is more professional. Have a lovely day Kaho (:

Wow, thanks for the information!! I’ve never heard of Evergreen or Koo Koo. There are so many spas here that it’s overwhelming and exciting! I haven’t done mani here and have only did pedi a year ago, so I would love to get pampered in the near future. I need it once in a while while it’s available for me!
