Looking For A Peacock Chair?
UPDATE: There is a shop where you can buy Peacock chairs more easily in Manila. (Apparently the pricing of furniture by the vendor on this blog post has changed since I purchased. Thus, the bargain price I got and mentioned on this blog is no longer the case.) The shop I recommend you is ADR Furniture. ADR Furniture does business online. You pick your choice of chair through photos on ADR Furniture Facebook page and communicate with them on Messenger or by text. You pay deposit by bank transfer and the rest by cash on delivery when your purchased item is delivered to you with a fee of PHP 500. It’s much easier! Their pricing is very reasonable compare to many other vendors that I have checked. I highly recommend ADR.

Peacock Chair
I was on a mission to find the signature furniture piece from the Philippines – a peacock chair. If you look up “Peacock Chairs” on Pinterest, you will find many enticing photos of peacock chairs that will make you want to own one. Our rattan swing chair from Mumbai is our purchase from Mumbai, India. You can read about it here. A peacock chair was going to be the one from Manila, Philippines for me.
The first time I saw a peacock chair was on Elise Hanna’s Blog. She is my total blog and photography crush by the way. Her instagram feed is an eye candy. If you haven’t followed her Insta account and you love photography, interior design or travel, you should go check it out.
Last year in November I found out that we were moving to Manila. Just like majority of expats do upon finding out that they might be moving to a country, I started my online research on Manila and the Philippines. Soon I stumbled upon a fabulous Manila blogger, Amber of A Momma Abroad. Probably all the expats in Manila know her. If you love to learn about Manila, whether you are expats or locals, I recommend following her and you should. She knows some awesome places to shop, dine, travel and more! Her home is lovely, too.
Some photos of her in a fabulous peacock chair at her home on her blog caught my attention. I was like “I want one!” She listed the shop where she purchased hers on her Secret Suki List blog post. (She’s such a good blogger!) The list had a general location of the shop and Imelda’s phone number. I called her and the number was not in use.
Quest To Find A Bargain Peacock Chair
I have been contacting places to shop for a peacock chair and the cheapest I had found so far was 1000 Pisos more than what Amber’s shop asks for a peacock chair plus a delivery fee. I’m a bargain shopper because I have 3 kids to send to college eventually.
As determined as I was, I drove to Quezon City using the information Amber listed on her blog. It read “It is located at the end of East Ave before you get on EDSA in Quezon City.” That was all I had. It was a gamble because there was a big chance that I would not find it. You know the answer already, though. Yes, I did find it.
The quest to find Molina’s was a challenge. I drove back and forth in the wrong area. After a while, I finally gave up. Before getting back on a bloody red mark highway on a Google Map to go home, I decided to go around and use a back road to avoid traffic. (I am a big fan of Google Map. My husband calls it a backseat driver.) I randomly directed my driver to take NIA Road. Then there it was! There were 3 shops right next to each other with peacock chairs displayed outside!
So I found my peacock chair.
Molina’s Handy Craft in Quezon City
I saw a lady at this one shop and I asked her name. It was Imelda, just like in the blog post on A Momma Abroad. Unlike Amber’s story, though, it just happened that two peacock chairs happened to be available for sale when I got there. Both of them looked like they had been sitting at her shop for a while. The material had some ware, stain and the nails were all rusted, but I didn’t mind it. I picked up one. She gave me the same price as she gave to Amber – 3,000 Pisos.
I sat with a huge peacock chair in my car, but I totally felt like skipping home.
UPDATE – MOLINA’S STORE RELOCATED!
MOLINA’S
Irene: +63 (995)981-7675
*If you need to communicate in English, I recommend going through Irene. She is a daughter of Imelda.
Imelda: +63 (927)574-6981
*Imelda can speak English, but it may be hard to understand on the phone. If you speak Tagalog, there wouldn’t be any issue of communication.
NEW LOCATION
73 Kamuning Rd, Quezon City
*This new location is further up north from the central Manila. It took me over an hour to get to their shop from my location. It’s a much smaller shop and I have no idea how long she will be using this space as it was her friend’s shop. If you find out any updates, please let me know.
UNOCRAFT – THE STORE RELOCATED
Unocraft is no longer in the location I listed when I published this post. Please call the store. The number is listed at the end.
As I was editing the photos, I realized something. The peacock chair at UNOCRAFT was actually in the exact color I was looking for! I went to UNOCRAFT first and asked the price at the shop keeper there. She said P3,500 (about $70). That is still cheaper than the prices you would pay at other shops at a mall, but I knew that Amber purchased hers for P3,000, so I kept going. Of course, I jumped for a cheaper one at Molina’s and that is what I have at home. I love it. However, when I look at the photos I took at UNOCRAFT, I wondered why I didn’t get the UNOCRAFT one. I really love the color of their peacock chair. Anyways, I thought some of you might want to see other options, so there you have it.
