My husband’s office had an annual office holiday lunch party. This red table was the one we used as a dessert table. I regret that I did not take a photo after desserts were placed on the table.
He and I took charge in planning of the party with another couple. It was the third time that we took part in organizing for it and it was a lot of work, but at the same time it was totally worth it. Since we’ve gone over the same preparations two years in a row last year and year before as well, it was actually easy in terms of preparing as we already had decoration and knew what to do.
We used a catering service “Upper Crust”. As my husband is from Texas, we picked Tex-Mex food to serve for the holiday lunch in the first year. Upper Crust has Tex-Mex and we liked their food and the price they offer. Local Indonesian staff enjoyed Tex-Mex so much when we served it three years ago, so we’ve used Upper Crust for the third time this year. When we researched their Tex-Mex food catering, the price was more reasonable than other places we have looked and after we used them, we were very pleased with their good service. Upper Crust also does a home delivery meal service which I have used and found quite handy when you know that you won’t have help at home and don’t feel like cooking.
These cookies were purchased from the American Club. They were about IDR 8.000 each (about US$0.80). I purchased 3 dozens. I thought about baking them and trying to decorate them, but since I have never done it before, I was glad I ordered them. It could’ve ended in a disaster, which won’t be good.
The items for the table decoration were all purchased in Jakarta. I found the green felt decor, both felt Christmas trees, round felt pieces on the table, and glittery green snowflakes at Lotte Mart. They came with cheap looking hooks or unattractive plastic gold chain, but I removed the chains and clips to use without them. Even the glass tea light candle holders in the photo above were purchased at Lotte Mart. They can be used as small vases as well. The light green glitter stars (I’m sorry the photo is not good…) on the table were found at Grand Lucky. They were on sale when I went last year. I love getting bargains and it’s not easy to find bargains that come with quality in Jakarta.
The dessert spread was pretty good. It is too bad that I have no photo of the dessert table. The two cakes on the top row in the photo collage below were made by my friend. She’s a great baker! I forgot to take photos of my own creations, too! What was I doing? I made Jaime Oliver’s chocolate tart, one of my favorites to make, and Chocolate Cookies with White Chocolate Chips. I worked hard the night before!! I didn’t even get to have a piece of my chocolate tart since I had to leave early from the party to take my son and middle child to a health check up. I hope my husband’s colleagues liked the tart! There was no piece left, so I guess that’s a good indication.
I hope you enjoyed the photos and information of the holiday party decoration. Christmas is less than a week away from us! My kids are anxious to receive gifts. We still have a few fun events ahead of us. The hectic days are not over yet. How about you? What are your plans until Christmas?

I voluntarily wrote about Upper Crust and there is no other intention than simply my own will to promote Upper Crust to the expats who live in Jakarta as it has been very helpful to us. Upper Crust also has a Jakarta’s Craigs List which you can receive by email. You can send an email to mary.a.wiley[at]uppercrustjakarta.com to subscribe.

Kaho, I like your creative use of the ornaments as table decorations. It’s a clever idea and looks very elegant. I will copy it at home, too!

Joy, thank you!! I couldn’t afford to buy lots of decoration out of pocket for the office party, so my solution was to do this! I’m so glad think it looks elegant!
