When my friend, Kati, invited me to go to an organic farmers’ market in Mumbai one Sunday morning, I had no idea what to expect. I’ve been to farmers’ markets before, but they were in the U.S. In India? In a megalopolis, Mumbai? Out of curiosity and a chance to take a little break from taking care of my kids, especially my toddler son who has been attached to my hip for 4 straight days (this is another story), I was intrigued. Having visited the Farmers’ Market in Maharashtra Nature Park in Mumbai with my two girl friends, I can say that I was so glad I went and had a great time.
At the Organic Farmers’ Market there were amazing products. Everything was organic and friendly to the environment and our nature earth. And I mean EVERYTHING! I love the concept of recycling. I also love organic food. Once you get there, you forget where you are. I didn’t hear any street noises. Instead, the live music with a guitar and violin by the entrance accompanied our shopping. Everything was very reasonable. The market was small, but it was still great. The best part to me was that I walked away feeling relaxed. There is something about this market that was very peaceful and relaxing.
I am thankful for Kati for having invited me to go to the Organic Farmers’ Market in Maharashtra Nature Park with her. I will definitely go back. As Kati says, the dosa made by the lemonade stand lady, is definitely worth a visit. That dosa was amazing. The coconut garnish in green to go with dosa made it divine. I think I can just eat the garnish like a bowl of soup. If you go to the dosa stand which was on the far left as you enter the market, make sure you get a yellow number token from her table. The wait was pretty long as she only has one hot plate to make dosa and there were many people wanting to get her dosa. She was a very popular lady and people were willing to wait to get her famous dosa.
The Organic Farmers’ Market at Maharashtra Nature Park only opens from October to March (and it is closed during the monsoon months)! Don’t miss this fabulous opportunity to shop organic goods in an open air market in Mumbai!

I have the same sentiment! Those plates made with leaves are amazing! And I don’t know what dosa is but you make it sound so delicious. I hope I find out first hand what it is someday haha! Oh and the Farmers Market looks simply amazing!

Thank you! Dosa is a pancake made of rice batter. The one I had at the market was not fermented which I like better than more usual dosa which is fermented and thus a bit sour.
