Moorthy’s is an antique shop, more specifically colonial furniture and ethnic artifacts, in Tardeo, Mumbai. Moorthy’s shop, which resembles more of a warehouse, is located at the end of a beautiful path off of Tardeo Road. This path was breath-taking and it tickled my curiosity to see Moorthy’s and their antique furniture and artifacts.
I have previously featured my friend Ako’s beautiful home with Indian Antiques on my blog. Her home was filled with such amazing antiques that it looked like a museum. Ako has connected me with her friends and Moorthy’s founders, Jacinta and Moorthy. Ako and her husband became good friends with Jacinta and Moorthy through their shopping antiques at Moorthy’s.
So there I was visiting Moorthy’s over a year after I received a request from Jacinta to come visit their shop. Since I have seen how beautifully Ako and her husband decorated their home with the antique pieces from Moorthy’s and Ako has become a dear friend to me during my first year of our time, I decided to feature her favorite antique shop, Moorthy’s.
I may not be an antique shopper, but there are many expats out there in India who love to collect antiques during their time here. There is definitely an interest for antique shopping in general especially for Indian antiques which I noticed through some of my antique photos on Pinterest.
MOORTHY’S ANTIQUE SHOP
Visiting Moorthy’s was an interesting experience. Walking around in the narrow corridors created between furniture pieces stacked up high to the ceiling, I was in another world. Surrounded by all the antiques which traveled time and existed in one big space waiting to be found by a new owner, it felt like I was doing a treasure hunt.
Moorthy & Jacinta
I had a lovely talk with Jacinta and Moorthy. They both are very passionate and professional about what they do. I could tell that they truly love their business. Jacinta and Moorthy have been dealing antiques for a number of years and their experiences have made them experts in the field. Unlike regular mass produced furniture shopping, antique furniture shopping require the special eye to evaluate the value added to the item to figure out price values. Since I am unexperienced to shop for antiques, I imagine that it would be helpful to shop while getting some advice from someone whom you can trust his/her advice. I would say Jacinta and Moorthy seemed very sincere and honest observing from the short conversation I had with them.

Epilogue
As a photography enthusiast, I could not help but think what a beautiful set up it was outside of Moorthy’s. The path, the windows, the doors, the trees, the moss and more that surround Moorthy’s would make a lovely background for portrait photography. It was delightful to snap some shots on my way out.
Disclosure
I received a request to write this post from the shop through my friend. I usually don’t take a writing request, but I accepted it this time for my good friend. I wrote voluntarily and did not receive any compensation or gift. All the words are mine.
