Micky Tan designed and made a lovely Cream & Grey Sari Dress for various occasions as a part of her collection and I got to try it! I feel that this one can be worn to a bit casual as well as dressed up events. I liked that the design allows your stomach to be hidden behind the drape of the fabric.
December is a festive season and people dress up for different occasions. In Mumbai, starting from November is a wedding season. For expat women, especially those who are new to India, being invited to a wedding is quite an ordeal and exciting because it means that you get to dress up in an Indian attire. When you live in India, you can’t help but be attracted to Indian dresses such as sari, lehengas (two piece dress with a top and big flare skirt), and anarkali suits (an Indian long dress with a fitted top and flare bottom). They are all beautiful, but they can be quite pricy and you don’t get to wear them often. I have two saris which I have worn a couple of times, but I don’t know if I will have a chance to wear them after I leave India.
Micky Tan’s dress saris are versatile to me because I feel that the design and colors can be worn in a western environment. I tried 4 of her sari dresses. You can see a royal blue one here and mint green and black one here. This cream and grey one by far is the most comfortable one to wear. The outfit comes with a long scarf like part that can be thrown onto the shoulder to make the dress look like a sari from the front, but it’s a skirt. It is much easier to wear than a real sari for those who are not familiar with wearing saris.
The overall design is simple, but the circle design on the chest makes it unique and interesting. The puffy sleeves are fun, too. The top is made with a stretchy fabric which makes it feel very comfortable yet stylish. The lovely drape from the skirt to the shoulder makes the dress look very elegant. If I pick color combinations on my own, I usually wouldn’t think to combine the cream color and grey, but I thought that they were a lovely match that complimented each other.
I hope you enjoy seeing Micky’s yet another beautiful dress!
