Matabungkay Beach Hotel
One long weekend when my husband’s cousin came in town for a visit from the U.S., we decided to plan a beach getaway at the last minute. A last minute planning is never good because finding accommodation is tough. However, we managed to find Matabungkay Beach Resort in Lian, Batangas. It is located in the area that is a 3-hour drive from Manila. The hotel looked lovely online and had some available rooms for us. Since all the family rooms were already taken, we reserved 2 deluxe rooms adjacent to each other.
I find Matabungkay Beach really pretty especially with the floating cottages called Balsa. They make this beach quite unique and interesting! The accommodation was very simple, but it worked out fine for us. We also got lucky because the hotel offered “book 2 nights and get the second night 50% off” in the month of August probably because of the rainy season.
Matabungkay Beach On A Cloudy Day
The day we traveled to Matabungkay Beach Hotel was the day Manila experienced a strong rain storm with flooding in various parts of the city due to the typhoon Ineng passing above Luzon Island. We got lucky that it was not raining at the resort. It allowed us to go to the beach and take a full advantage of a beach vacation.
We didn’t get to stay in a Water Villa, but it certainly looked really nice!!
Matabungkay Beach Hotel is a very basic hotel in terms of the room accommodation. The showers were not working great in either of our rooms. The service was friendly. We had 2 Deluxe Rooms as a Superior Family was not available.

Side Notes
LOCATION
You can stop at Breakfast At Antonio’s or Antonio’s in Tagaytay on the way there or on the way home to Manila. The restaurants are right on route to the hotel. It will make your trip much easier. You have got to try Breakfast At Antonio’s if you haven’t. You could even stop and go on a tour of Taal Lake volcano hike.
30 MINUTES FROM LITTLE BORACAY
Matabungkay Beach Hotel is 30 minutes away by car from the white sandbar also known as Little Boracay or Starfish Island. You can read about the sandbar HERE. If you stay at Matabungkay for 2 nights, you should make a trip down to the White Sandbar on the second day. It was a fun adventure and we loved it. It’s definitely worth a 30-minute drive.
30 MINUTES FROM LA COCANDA ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN NASUGBU
If you don’t mind driving 30 minutes for a dinner, you should try an Italian restaurant called La Locanda. We went to La Cocanda when we stayed at Amara Residences in Nasugbu, Batangas in 2018. We loved it so much, we went back to La Cocanda on the second day of our stay at Matabungkay to have dinner there. It always makes a nice adventure to go out for a meal and get away from the hotel to explore the area as well.
