I don’t know why, but I never knew about MAQUI’S Kobe, a sweets store originally from Kobe, Japan, until I came to Jakarta. It seems that Maqui’s sweets are very popular among Japanese people in Jakarta since I have seen Japanese people bring Maqui’s as a gift twice in the recent past. When I passed by Maqui’s Kobe in Plaza Indonesia, I could not help, but stop and look around the decoration as well as the delicious looking display of sweets. The store was absolutely adorable. I thought that the store decoration was beautiful with white, brown and soft pink. (I have a weak spot for tree decal as well.) Our friends were with us and they bought us some jelly and Japanese flan/purin (we call flan “purin (Japanese borrowed word from pudding)” in Japan) as we have never tasted them. They were delightful. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. A jelly is IDR 9,000 ($1) and a flan/purin is IDR 10,000 ($1.2). The chocolate display they had in show cases were darling looking, too. They were art work more than food to me. What a photogenic store it is!! Our girls loved the jelly they picked. It looked like they swallowed the jelly and it was gone.

It took me a long time to appreciate Japanese dessert… but now I am a big fan of azuki and macha ice cream and other delicacies (mochi etc…). I can still remember some places in Kyoto near the temples where you can eat delicious desserts while drinking green tea #imissjapan *sigh*

Would you happen to know if they have a Halal certificate? I’ve just received some of their goods from a friend of my father’s and I’d very much like to taste it.
Kaho says
Lina, I have no idea if they have a halal certificate… I’m sorry! Thank you for your comment, though!
