Kofuku is a Japanese restaurant in Mumbai that is very popular among locals as well as expats. It is one of the restaurants that Japanese expats like to go to seeking comfort food from their home country, Japan.
Being Japanese, finding a place for me to get Japanese food in Mumbai was something that was on top of my list. When I met a Japanese lady a day after we arrived in Mumbai, the very first question I asked her was whether there was a good Japanese restaurant. She said “KOFUKU”. By the way, the name of the restaurant “Kofuku” means happiness in Japanese. Apparently this restaurant is the one that the Japanese expats in Mumbai have longed for. It was their dream comes true to have this restaurant in Mumbai. When I first walked into the restaurant, which was on the second day of our arrival in Mumbai, I was ecstatic to see that there was a restaurant like KOFUKU in Mumbai!!! You think I’m exaggerating? Oh no. For me it was like walking into Japan from the hectic streets of Mumbai.
The food was great. I’m not an expert in food, but I think they are authentic. When I go to Japanese restaurants I look for more home cooking type of dishes and I thought that the dishes we ordered were very good. I didn’t dare try raw fish there, but I have Japanese friends who eat sushi there. This time we tried vegetarian sushi rolls. By the way, India is the place to be vegetarian. I’m not, but I love vegetarian dishes and India is a vegetarian heaven! My vegetarian friends, you ought to come to India. Vegetarian menus are amazing in Mumbai.

Koho, I am glad that you settled down in a new place and started to discover it. Japanese restaurant looks lovely! By the way, recently I took my Russian friend, who never tried before Japanese food to Bochi Bochi and she was highly impressed! I am jealous to your new neighbors who can visit the places you are writing about. No one is updating on new places in Jakarta. I really miss you here!

Thanks, Oxana! Thank you for saying that you’re jealous of my new neighbors. You’re so sweet. I miss you, too!!

Hello! I just happened to stumble upon your blog and was drawn in by the beautiful photography and the fact that your post is bilingual (I write in J&E too so I know how time-consuming it can be sometimes!) I’m really interested in different countries and cultures, so I’ll be looking forward to reading more on your life in Mumbai 🙂

Miwa, thank you so much for commenting! I am actually a lazy bilingual blogger who only blogs in both languages when I feel like it. I need to be good like you! I saw your blog and I am so flattered to get such a compliment from a photographer like you! Your blog is beautiful and your photos are gorgeous!! Thank you!!

Hi Kaho, I found your blog from my friend’s recommendation and your blog is awesome, I love the posts! I then found your kids pictures and so surprised to find Kara and her daughters in your posts. I used to work with her in Jakarta and before she left to Taiwan, I visited her house and met your daughter. Your daughter is so nice, she even asked me to have ‘tea party’ with C and sang a song for us. It was a lovely day with the girls.
Keep on posting, Kaho! 🙂

I’ll surely continue to enjoy your blog though, as it’s written from a place I’ve never been to. Looking forward to see a huuuge variety of cuisine =) All the best to you~

Disti, thank you for coming back to visit my blog. Your kind words made my day! I will work hard to make my restaurant reviews appealing for those who do not live in India as well. Thank you for your comment!
