Have you heard of KidZania? I took my two girls and my friend’s daughter/my daughter’s best friend to KidZania in Jakarta on one day during their fall break last week.
KidZania is basically an amusement park made for children aged 2 through 14 where they are entertained by experiencing real world occupations. Inside a KidZania a replica of a city in kids size is created. You as an adult feel like a giant in this city. If you see pictures below, you will see how the city looks. There are virtually any job you can imagine in this theme park and kids get to choose whatever job they wan to do (there are some age limit to some choices), perform and earn KidZania money after they give their service. You can read more about it on Wikipedia. This theme park was fully developed by Mexican entrepreneur Xavier López Ancona . He is truly brilliant.
Here are the photos of my girls doing their ‘work’. Why don’t I let you explore first and talk a little more about it later?
All three girls had a blast and I enjoyed seeing my girls and my friend’s daughter experience different types of jobs. This is only a fraction of what KidZania offer at their park. I took the girls on Wednesday and I thought I might get lucky and be there when it was not crowded. I was completely wrong. It was packed!!! I think there were maybe 4 different schools that brought kids for a field trip and it was like a zoo!
This place is truly amazing. I had fun seeing my girls and my friend’s daughter experience working at a nursery, beauty salon, cooking school and fire station. The fire station was the most interesting to watch, but they loved working in a nursery. There were others that they wanted to do, for example, a cat walk lesson where kids get to wear a dress and practice walking like a model and then walk on a stage later to perform. I didn’t know that they have lesson schedule and we couldn’t make it to the last lesson of the day, we had to give it up. There is a car racing circuit which I was interested in, but my daughters might be too young for it.
The hard thing for me was that my younger daughter is only 2 (almost 3) and there were many jobs that allow kids aged 4 and older. My younger daughter could not even enter the beauty salon, for instance, and she was heart broken. She started crying seeing my older one and her friend play/work in there. She was also not allowed to go into the cooking class. There are also many jobs that kids have to be 6 years of age or older as well, so my older daughter and her friend could not do those activities. There were plenty of other activities that they could do, so it was not a problem though. The prices you pay is based on the age. After you make a payment they give children as well as parents bracelets and when kids enter the job room, their bracelets are scanned, so you can’t lie about their age at the door of an activity (unless you do so at the ticket counter). I’m not suggesting anything, but that’s something you might want to think about in advance.
It is a great place to take kids on any given day, but especially when it is raining or cold outside. I wish there was something like that in Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. I’ve heard about KidZania from my Japanese friends and I always wanted to take my kids there, so I was excited to find out that there was KidZania in Jakarta when we moved here.
I went to the KidZania located inside of Pacific Place Mall.
Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav 52-53
Kawasan Niaga Sudirman (SCBD)
Jakarta 12190.

Great experience! We always wanted to go there, too, but the one in Kobe opened only on the way we moved to Tokyo… We are waiting for our daughter to be 3, as they only allow kids over 3 here. Thus, we are looking forward to going there on her birthday in two months time! Everyone who has been there tells me that it’s great. I can’t wait!!

It is wonderful. Make sure you go when it’s not crowded. Maybe in Japan during the week is better?

Kaho, I LOVED this post! I have never ever heard about such theme park, and I am wondering why Singapore doesn’t have its own yet. This is sooo much fun, and it is the best concept ever. You must have enjoyed the experience as well… a little envious perhaps? I know I would have loved that as a kid…

This past summer Kai and I went to the one in Osaka (Koshien) and he LOVED it. He is looking forward to going back again. It’s interesting to see the company names are different at the one you went. Kai had fun working for Kuroneko Yamato, Yaklt (as a researcher), and getting a bank account with Mitsui Sumitomo Bank! When you get back to Japan, you should definitely try the one in Tokyo, it will be an interesting cross-cultural experience for your girls.

Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen anything so fanastic for children!! How great for you to have taken the girls here – they must have loved it. As a teacher, I can see this would be such an amazing place to bring a class of students.

Thanks for your comment. I’m afraid I cannot help you with your project. I don’t have any architectural information of Kidzania. I just went there with my kids and reported about our experience, but I don’t work there. I hope you can find someone who can help you!! Good luck!
