Kids Toy & Media Room ☆ Our Home in Mumbai

This is a space in the center of other bedrooms. Some people use this as a family room. Some others use as a play room. I saw this space to use as a kids play area.

When I was thinking about how I can design this room, I thought of the following things.

1. Paint or no paint
I decided to go with the white wall because this room has such pretty hardwood floor with nice built-in entertainment center in a natural wood color which I like. The white wall will accentuate them. Plus, there is no window in this room and white reflects the light that comes in from other rooms.

2. Placement of the book shelf
I put the bookshelf on the left side so that you don’t see the messy bookshelf when you first come upstairs. I could also hide the plastic tool table that does not seem to really fit in the whole room decor behind the bookshelf.

3. Placement of toy boxes
These are low toy boxes with lids which I didn’t know where to put. I decided to put behind the bean bag sofas. This way the boxes don’t take up any space in front of the wall.

4. Storage
There are two IKEA APA toy storage boxes. One for stuffed toys and the other is for plastic toys. I also use an IKEA KNODD 11 gallon bin for stuffed toys. I have games and others tucked in the cupboards.

Canvas Living Tissue Box Cover

This was a gift from my friend. I love it! The brand is called Canvas Living from Indonesia. I wish I shopped the items at Canvas Living when I still lived in Jakarta! Shame.

Tulisan Tea Towel

Tulisan is one of my favorite Indonesian brands. I bought their tea towel and framed it because I love to look at it everyday! Batavia is an old name for Jakarta during the colonial period.

Silver Chalkboard Ledge

I waned to get white RIBBA picture ledges from IKEA. During my stay in the U.S. this past summer, I went to IKEA twice, but for some reason, I couldn’t find them!! I had about an hour at each visit at IKEA while my two older kids were in the play room. One time I ran around like a mad woman with my baby son in the cart eating crackers and candies so that I can get everything on my long shopping list. Have you done that? The other time I was with my friends and I must have gotten destructed. I ended up getting these picture ledges at Target. They were called chalkboard ledges and were on sale! I tried to look them up online, but they have sold out.

These were my “Gotta-buy-something-from-Indonesia” pre-departure purchase at KOI Indonesia. Love them!

My Thor Boy is playing in our play room. It’s really nice to have one kid at home as two of my older ones are school age and not home most of the day!
