How was your Halloween? Ours was a lot of fun!! Halloween is one of my favorite events of the year. Now I have kids that I get to experience the kids version of Halloween once again and get excited see my kids get dressed in their costumes and go trick or treating. This year my older one decided to be Pocahontas and my younger daughter wore the lady bug costume I bought for her on sale at T.J.Maxx last year for this year. I miss hitting the sales wrack at Target and other stores for after Halloween sales.
I didn’t decorate my house until two days before Halloween this year. I don’t know if it had to do with lack of motivation I had after having been sick in stomach for three weeks or the warm tropical weather making me confused about the season. I am glad I finally did. At least we can enjoy the autumn decoration till the end of Thanksgiving. Every year starting around mid October, we get really busy and the next thing I know is Christmas. It’s a lot of fun and the best time of the year.
Autumn was not my favorite season when I lived in Japan. Summer is usually my favorite season there and fall always reminded me of the ending of my favorite time of the year in Japan. Days get shorter and it gets darker each day and I used to think it was a bit depressing. After having lived in Northern Virginia in the U.S. for two years, autumn became my favorite season. In the U.S. autumn feels very festive and warm. It offers a lot of fun events starting with Halloween. The change of leaves is absolutely gorgeous in the upper East Coast. I love the fragrance of autumn such as pumpkin spices and I use candles and a reed diffuser to enjoy the scent of the fall season. Pumpkin pies and apple pies are my favorite.
My kids had a lot of fun this year with two parties to attend. They got to go trick-or-treating twice. As for my husband and I, we started a long Halloween weekend with a no-kids Halloween party on Friday night. That was a blast. One thing I regret is that I forgot to bring my camera!! I always have it on me, but when it comes to the time I really need it, I seem to manage to forget it. However, my sweet friend, Kara, took my photo. She was a beautiful peacock and I would’ve loved to take her photos on my camera, but I couldn’t. (Not that my camera is that much better than hers.) For the first time in over 14 years of my hubby and I being together, we dressed up for Halloween as a couple this year. I dragged my hubby into this and made him John Lennon and I was Yoko Ono. I could’ve done better with bigger hair and wicket sunglasses. Maybe next time. I did have sunglasses in my purse, but because the party venue was dark, I didn’t want to wear them, so I’m not wearing my sunglasses in the photos either. Blast! People didn’t recognize me if I were alone, but with my husband, they got it. I even wore a pair of knee-high socks. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of myself wearing the dorky socks, but I wanted to let you know that I did wear the high socks in the tropical weather. What do you think?

Looks like you had a great Halloween. I love how you have arranged everything – you're a sweet mom.

Malibu! That sounds really nice!!! I know how crazy it gets in LA during Halloween, so very understandable. The celebration was more for our kids. Well, this year I got inspired to even get dressed up in costume which was for us adults, but it was the first in 13 years of us together!

Love it! You and P look great, and the decorations were beautiful. The girls’ costumes were gorgeous. I hear you about not being able to hit the clearances back in the States. Guess I’ll have to get creative next year.

by the way how do you handle being away from your family? Are you used to traveling or do you take trips to see your family often?
