Even though I have only been in Mumbai, India for 4 months at this point, if you were to ask me where would be my favorite place to eat out, my answer would be The Tasting Room. There are so many other good restaurants in Mumbai, but The Tasting Room is a winner for me for overall package with its design, ambiance, music, taste of the food, variety of food, kids meal, service and Good Earth being attached to the restaurant. In the past 4 months, I have gone to the Tasting Room 3 times even though it is not in an easy access area for me to eat out. The Tasting Room is one of the places where it is so exotic and dreamy that you forget where you are. On top of that, the food is tasty and reasonable.
My stylish Indian friend took me here. She’s so cool, sweet and wonderful. After she showed me around Lower Parel, introducing me to some good places for shopping, we relaxed at The Tasting Room with its Afternoon Tea. Afternoon tea at The Tasting Room is offered between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. As a mom with little kids, I’m used to eating dinner at 6:00, so this ended up being my dinner. That works for me.
Afternoon Tea
4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The price for an Afternoon Tea was around 900 Rupees (I’m sorry, I can’t remember or find the accurate price online, but it was very reasonable). The small 3 teared tray enough for two people comes with a cup of tea, so if you go there with another person, you purchase another cup of tea to make it a set for two. It was simply lovely.
Weekday Lunch with Girl Friend
I had a really rough week that week and going to The Tasting Room to see my girl friend who lives in South Mumbai was the biggest treat for the week and my sanity saver. Even though my son was a terror at the restaurant rolling around on the floor at one point while I took some photos and embarrassed me in front of nice Indian business people, it was still a very relaxing time catching up with my girl friend. I hope to see her without my little monkey son next time.

Kids Menu
Don’t you love it when you find kids menu at a restaurant? Not only does it make it easier for you to pick food for your kids, but it also indicates that the restaurant welcomes children.
My husband wanted to try The Tasting Room, so we went with our 3 children. It was actually very nice. It helped me a lot to have my husband to deal with our 21-month-old-wild-animal son. Our kids loved their pasta dishes and basically licked the plate.
The Tasting Room would be my to-go place for out of town guests.

This place looks absolutely lovely. (Your photos are so beautiful, as always.) And I gotta agree with your note about kids’ menus. I know what you mean–definitely easier, and it’s nice to know that they welcome kids. I once went to a restaurant in Tokyo and was denied entry because I had a one-year-old with me. And it was just a normal Chinese restaurant!

I cannot believe that you were denied entry in Tokyo! During the day? There are restaurants here where kids below 12 sometimes 15 are not allowed after certain hours in the evening. If they want to cater to adults from the evening, I understand. It, however, makes me self conscious to eat at a restaurant with a rule like that during the day. I’m sorry that happened to you!
Miwa says
Yes, it was lunch! Unbelievable, right? It’s never happened to me before and has never happened to me since. But I’m much more careful now–I double check to make sure that the places I go to are kid-friendly!
Kaho says
It was for LUNCH? That’s ridiculous! That’s not cool. At all.
