GANASH
If you like Indian food and will be in Hoi An, this is a MUST! We found this restaurant on Lonely Planet and decided to give it a try. Thank you, Lonely Planet! It was awesome!! It was very inexpensive, too. It makes my mouth water by thinking about the food we had there.

This is another Lonely Planet recommendation. We liked it. I found some vegetarian options, so if you are vegetarian, this is a good place for you. No, I’m not vegetarian, but I like vegetarian dishes, too! The service was a bit slow probably because it was busy. We ordered two pho noodles and a garlic chicken dish. The pho came very quickly (lucky us!), but my husband who ordered the garlic chicken dish had to wait for almost another 20-30 minutes. By the time his dish came, all three of us (our girls and I) were done eating. Maybe they had to go find a chicken to kill first. Just kidding!

THANH PHUONG Restaurant & Cafe
We found this place on our own. We walked along the river, looking for a good place to have dinner. I just wanted to try one place that was not on the Lonely Planet. We decided to try this restaurant, Thanh Phuong, as it looked very busy.
Next time we go back to Hoi An, I’m definitely going back to this restaurant! We didn’t order from their set menu, but they seem to have great deals. Where can you find a restaurant with a set menu from appetizer to dessert only for US$5? The couple who sat next to us ordered a set menu and they had a ton of stuff on their table. I wanted to try their food!!

We learned about this place, once again, from Lonely Planet. We checked it out at night, too, but it was more like a bar, so we opted out as a dinner option. Lunch was great and it was packed!! Delicious sandwiches. My older daughter ordered spaghetti bolognese. You would never imagine you can have such good spaghetti bolognese in a small city like Hoi An in Vietnam! We’re no Italian, but we thought it was super good.

Vietnam Coffee
Before we had dinner at Mermaid restaurant (next restaurant on this post), we stopped at this one coffee shop literally two or three houses down the same street. I can’t remember the name of it, but it’s a small place that played cool alternative music. We ordered Vietnam Coffee and a smoothy drink for our girls. This coffee was the best Vietnam coffee I’ve had! I’m sorry that I didn’t take note to tell you where it was, but it’s right by the Mermaid restaurant.
MERMAID RESTAURANT AND GRILL Nhu Y
We closed our trip with a Vietnamese dinner at the Mermaid Restaurant. Yes, Lonely Planet, thank you! This restaurant is owned by the person who owns the Cargo Club. They also offer cooking classes. How sweet is it to take a cooking class in Hoi An? I didn’t know, but also traveling with small kids does not allow us to do activities like this. It might be fun if you like cooking!
I hope you enjoyed my post about the restaurants we tried in Hoi An. There are so many more options and I only wish we could’ve stayed longer to try more food there!!

Precious posts of yours Kaho! Thank you so much for sharing in details your trip to Vietnam. It makes me want to go back immediately. Did you know that the same person who owns the Cargo and the Mermaid also owns the Morning Glory I mentioned to you? so if you liked both of the above restaurants, you can make sure that you will love the MG too 🙂
I am amazed that your daughters seem to eat the Indian food (mine only dare the naan, chapati etc…)

We missed Morning Glory!!!! Sigh. I saw that and thought about going there, but we picked those two. Well, we have a reason to go back!

did you get a chance to go to Quan Ngon in HCM city? it’s a very popular tourist restaurant, and the food is pretty good, too.
