Easter Sunday in 2020 was on April 12. Exactly a month before, on March 12, a month-long community quarantine was in place in Manila. The original quarantine order eventually turned into lockdown/enhanced quarantine, which was strictly enforced. Additionally, the prospective end date for lockdown was moved from the 13th to the 30th of April. The Philippines is working hard to mitigate the rise of cases still now. If you would like to know how lockdown in Manila unfolded, please read my previous post.
I just learned that another expat family decided to leave Manila. In the last month, many expat members have departed the city. Some have experienced stringent regulations in their residences. Fortunately for us, our environment has been somewhat peaceful. Having experienced a life in lockdown for a month, I’d comfortably say that my family has well adjusted to the new normal despite an emotional roller coaster ride at the beginning.
Easter is the biggest holiday for the Philippines. Many locals travel to visit their families or make a trip during the Easter holiday. Therefore, Manila normally gets deserted. Needless to say it wasn’t the case this year. I felt heartbroken for the local people. As for my family, this year’s Easter break has become the strangest yet most memorable. Why? The break consisted of lots of relaxing and cleaning. We conducted well-needed decluttering and organizing of our home. I plan on writing about it with the photos of my home soon on this blog.
For now, here are the eggs that my kids decorated and dyed for Easter. I will always cherish those moments that I was able to create memories with my kids.
Sending you positive vibes from Manila!
