Bedroom Makeover With IKEA Fabric & Metal Trunks
I decided to make our master bedroom into a black and white bedroom about 2 years ago and made some changes using IKEA fabric and metal trunks. I posted how I hung the IKEA fabric on the wall in a post “Sprucing Up Master Bedroom with IKEA Fabric“. It was a gradual process to complete a makeover of our master bedroom. I replaced wooden frames with fabric with a black and white fabric backdrop which you can see the before and after in the post “Sprucing Up Master Bedroom with IKEA Fabric”. Then I replaced a brown wooden table with metal trunks to finish. I also added pillows on the bed. I do not want a million pillows on the bed, but I realize that pillows can add more character to the bed and room with a low-budget. I love metal trunks that you can buy cheaply in India and they can be a wonderful storage unit. Besides all that, they are cool looking when you stack two of them on top of each other with the top one in a smaller size. I love how they look as a night stand next to the bed.

BEFORE
This is how our bedroom looked like when my family and I first moved into our apartment in Mumbai in August, 2013. Our apartment was pre-furnished. Our current master bedroom was used for a kid room, but we decided to switch rooms with our middle daughter and son’s room for various reasons.
AFTER
This plastic drawers are one of the most versatile items I have owned. I bought this plastic chest with drawers when we lived in Okinawa, Japan. I used it in our closet. Then I used it in my oldest daughter’s closet in her room in our previous home in Jakarta, Indonesia. Now I use it in my room in the open space next to our wardrobe. I cover the plastic chest with the fabric so that we can hide the plastic look.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing the changes I have made. Making changes in a room may take some time. When I move to a new home overseas (for my husband’s job assignment), I sometimes change a theme or mood of a room from the previous home. I try not to rush into completing the process of decorating so that I don’t buy items on a whim. Also, sometimes your ideas of a room evolves as you see more things. I have learned that patience is the virtue.

I love this room Kaho! I have always loved your world map bedspread and what I love about this room is that while it work so well for grwonups – it would work equally well for younger and teenage boys. I know my older son would love the map look.
