Do you have a shoe storage by the front door? We take off our shoes when we come into our home, so I always like to have a shoe storage by the entrance. Our new home did not come with a shoe storage, so here is my solution: bookcases! I placed wrapping paper on the shelves so that the shoes would not dirty the shelves.
Prior to coming to Mumbai, I made a run to IKEA in Virginia, in the U.S. and bought 2 sets of KVARTAL rails thinking I would like to use a piece of fabric for decoration in the new apartment since KRAVTAL seemed very handy for hanging fabric as a decoration. On the same shopping trip, I also bought TRÅDKLÖVER fabric (shown in the photos), which I saw on display and fell in love with. I decided to use these on our bookshelves to cover the messy look with shoes.
How did I hang the fabric onto the bookcase? Well, here’s my little trick. It’s very simple.
What do you think? You can see my before & after photos of the chalkboard and chevron walls here. I was pleasantly surprised by how much brighter it looks with the white fabric.

I love the fabric you chose Kaho. I really admire your eye for prints. I am afraid of prints but you prove once again that used in the right way, it can be chic. It really updates the look of your shoe cabinet and looks very pretty right across the door from the chalkboard wall! I really appreciate the tip and will keep it in mind while I continue decorating as well. Thanks for the tip!

Brilliant idea! i also have the same problem like these. The old wooden bookcase which turn to be toys and other messy stuff case in my boy’s playroom. What kind of fabric that you use and how do you operate/open the fabric to get the shoes? I think i also wanna cover my case with a fabric like this. Thanks for the idea Kaho.

I bought a fabric from IKEA. When we get our shoes, we just lift the fabric a bit and get the shoes from the side if this makes any sense… It’s nothing fancy! I wish I have that talent, but I don’t! Thanks for visiting!!
