Tokyo has so many amazing places to see. Daikanyama is by far one of my favorite areas in Tokyo.
Having been away for the last 23 years, Tokyo feels like a familiar yet brand new city. Since my husband, our 3 children and I moved to Tokyo, the city I had grown up, in the summer 2021, I can’t tell you how grateful I have been to be living in Tokyo again on so many levels. At the same time, I must admit that there have been a number of challenges to it just like other overseas posts. The lifestyle we chose to live has pros and cons no matter where the posting is.
Anyways, I would like to introduce Daikanyama on my blog from my perspective. There are more than plenty of excellent resources about Tokyo written in English, frankly, way better than mine. You don’t run short of information to discover and learn about fascinating places in Tokyo. This fact hindered me from writing about places I have visited in Tokyo. However, I realized that there is always space for everyone in any field. Therefore, here I am. Hopefully, I can let you see Tokyo in a new light and you find it interesting and enticing.
SNS CAFE
SNS Cafe in Daikanyama is a stylish cafe from Sweden that is located about a brisk 8-minute walk from Ebisu Station and a quick 4-minute walk from Daikanyama Station. Its interior design would catch any design fans as soon as they walk into the cafe. My heart totally skipped a beat when I walked in.
SNS started as a sneaker fashion retail store in Södermalm, Sweden, in 1999. Currently SNS has 7 locations: New York City, Los Angles, Tokyo, London, Paris, Berlin and Stockholm. According to their “About” page, “It was never just about sneakers. SNS has always had a soft spot for good friends, good times and good food.” As a result, a concept of cafe restaurant next to a sneaker shop was born.
“Leaning on the duality of the Scandinavian and Japanese cultures, the aesthetic features elements such as furniture by Grythyttan, Bumling lamps by Swedish company Ateljé Lyktan, custom tiles by Mander, Artek chairs with custom leather seats in M90 camo that can be found across all SNS locations globally along with a deep attention to detail throughout.”

We enjoyed their hot cafe lattes on a cold morning.

DAIKANYAMA T-SITE
This discreet corner is a Family Mart convenience store. (Photo below) There is a sign in Japanese letters that says “FAMIMA”, which is a shortened name for Family Mart.
IVY PLACE
Ivy Place is located behind the T-Place buildings as you can see in the reflection of the white t-shape design of the T-Place on the restaurant glass window. I hear great things about Ivy Place. This was my 2nd time passing by the restaurant. Once during the week and once on a weekend. It seems that it may be harder to grab a table on weekends. I would love to one day bring my family for a brunch at Ivy Place.

STREET SHOTS
How adorable is this building with colorful awnings?
That’s a wrap. I hope you enjoyed the virtual tour of Daikanyama.
Lastly, below is a map of Daikanyama with SNS Cafe and Daikanyama T-Site locations that I talked about above here. Everything else I featured here is in between those two spots. If you head to those two spots, you will discover so many other cool buildings and spots that may interest you. When you find yourself with some time to explore in Tokyo, why don’t you hop on a train and head to Daikanyama? You’ll love it!
