Wijaya Beach is a hotel as well as a restaurant in Dalawella, Unawatuna in the south of Sri Lanka. The Wijaya Beach is built on the Dalawella beach where the coral reef created almost a lagoon like body of water in front of the hotel, which was great for kids to swim and for parents to let them swim without worrying about them. At the same time, the waves outside the calm water were great for surfers. While we played at the beach, we also enjoyed watching some surfers ride waves.
We learned about Wijaya Beach Restaurant through a driver we hired. He took us to the restaurant for lunch on the day we drove from Colombo to Unawatuna. We left Colombo in the morning and made a stop at a turtle sanctuary. Before getting to our hotel, we wanted to grab some food for late lunch and that’s why we went to Wijaya Beach. The pizzas we ordered were delicious and we fell in love with the place. It turned out that Wijaya Beach was only 5 minute drive from our hotel Cantaloupe Aqua, so we ended up returning to Wijaya Beach two other times for lunch and to play at the beach! It was fantastic!!
Wijaya Beach seems to be a really neat place to stay as well. When I visited their website for this post, I remember having visited their website when I was looking for a place to stay for my family’s vacation in January 2016. I was interested in Wijaya Beach for our stay, but there was no room available by the time I checked the availability for January 2016 and I searched in September of 2015. Just like any other hotels, Wijaya Beach Hotel is quite small, so there are not many rooms. I recommend you book early for the peak season starting from December till mid January.
When I was doing research for Unawatuna, I had a hard time figuring out which hotels have a beach with calm water. I would look up hotels, but there was lack of information or photos of the nearby beaches. When I search with terms such as “beach in Unawatuna”, I saw many of the same photos. Having visited the Dalawella Beach, I realized that many of the photos that I took notice of were taken there.
We loved the pizzas at Wijaya Beach. My daughter ordered the Hawaiian Pizza with bacon and pineapples 3 days in a row. They have brick ovens to make pizzas.
DALAWELLA BEACH
As I mentioned above, the Dalawella Beach is the name of the beach in front of the Wijaya Beach hotel and restaurant. We loved both this Dalawella Beach and the beach in Talpe, the one in front of the hotel we stayed, Cantaloupe Aqua.
RAINY BEACH VIEW
It rained two days in a row when we were in Unawatuna. The rain started around 3:00 in the afternoon on both days. Dalawella Beach still looked beautiful, though! We sat in the restaurant and waited until the rain stopped.
I saw this Skinny Beach House when I was there. I loved the concrete modern look. I browsed some photos on Flip Key, which I have not used yet, but it seems to be getting more and more popularity in this part of the world. I love the simple and beautiful interior design at Skinny Beach.

If you ever visit Unawatuna, I highly recommend you visit Wijaya Beach. It’s got a great vibe and music, too! When my kids see the photos of Wijaya Beach, they ask when we can go back there.

I’m glad you found and enjoyed Wijaya Beach. When we first visited Sri Lanka we rented a simple little cottage about ten minutes walk inland from Wijaya beach. We tried meals in many different places but were always drawn back to the fresh and delicious food at Wijaya. They do great things with fresh tuna as well as delicious pizzas. Not to forget the fun waves and the regular turtles popping up to say “hello”.

Anne, you’ve been there!! I agree. They do have fresh food! We went there 3 times and I could’ve gone more. I didn’t know that they have turtles! We didn’t encounter one, but it would’ve been cool! Thank you for visiting and your comment!
