Khar Social Cafe and Bar
Khar Social is a trendy cafe and bar and the 4th Social branch that opened in Mumbai and the 7th in India. There are other Social branches in Bangalore and New Delhi. I have been aware of them and Colaba Social has especially been under my radar, but I have never had a chance to go to any of the branches in Mumbai. You ask why? I’m a mother of 3 kids.
I thought Social cafes were just a cafe and bar. However, when I visited their website and read a bit more about them, the concept is so much bigger. Here’s the extract from Social’s website.
Social is a space that blends the best of the office and the café. Combining work and play, it’s an urban hangout designed to take you offline while still keeping you connected. Social is a collaborative workspace, a hub for artists and innovators.
You should visit their website to view their video.
With the understanding of the concept behind the cafe and bar explained in the video, you will come to appreciate a lot of design details you see in the cafe. Khar Social was designed by Sameep Padora and Harshat Verma of Studio sP+a. Everything at Khar Social is 100% upcycled and repurposed which comes from Social’s vision of using sustainable materials. (via latenightmumbai) This makes me like Social even better.
I had a lovely occasion to go out for lunch with my husband without kids. When my husband asked where I wanted to go, the first place that came to my mind was Khar Social which opened in October 2015. Ever since I saw Khar Social on the latenightmumbai Instagram feeds, I have been wanting to go there.
As we walked into Khar Social and saw the restaurant, it reminded me of my favorite restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia, KOI Kemang. Stylish industrial interior design and upbeat electronic music with friendly staff made the atmosphere of the cafe very cheerful and trendy.
By the way, latenightmumbai features cool trendy places in town sometimes with beautiful interior photos which I often seek after in Instagram feeds and this is one of the ways I learn about new place to check out in Mumbai. If you live in Mumbai or will visit Mumbai, I recommend latenightmumbai to find out trendy places for dining.
Notice the design?
The parenthesis design used in S( )CIAL is shown in the light fixture design.
I ordered Bombay Bachelors Sandwich. I have learned about Mumbai sandwich from my friend, so I wanted to try this. It tasted like Masala Dosa Sandwich to me. It was good!
Both my husband and I were impressed with their food. My husband ordered an ice tea and it came in the lovely bathtub shaped glass! How fun is this? Social has their signature Longest Long Island Iced Tea which I would love to try some time. If I am going there in the evening, I would like to order this drink.

What’s the damage? I love the little box with hashtag damage which came with our bill. My husband was surprised how inexpensive it was even in comparison to most of the restaurants where many expats frequent that we also regularly go in Mumbai. The damage was amicable and it left us feeling wanting to come back for more.
Skate board, anyone? You can bring a skate board and play while you wait for you food. I didn’t want to break my bones, so I did not dare to go out there.

I enjoyed your report. I visited the branch in Coloba recently. It is similar but nicely individual at the same time and, like you, I was impressed at how reasonable the “damage” was. I also liked the quirky serving dishes and glasses.

Hi, Anne! So lovely to see your comment! You’ve been to the one in Colaba! The reasonable cost and good food are always good combination. Their quirky serving dishes and glasses are a bonus. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Kaho,
Ive visited the Palladium Social about 3 weeks ago and I must say it was an afternoon well spent, with very little “damage” for two people, as compared to other joints in Palladium.
I used to live in Mumbai and now I’m based in Ahmedabad. Ive been following your blog for a few months now. Discovered the Kulture Shop via your blog and visited it and told them about it 🙂 they were really happy! I love the way you write, its so honest and on point. Please keep the posts coming! They are a real delight to read.
Kind regards,
Sargam
