I am lucky to have friends who show me cool places to check out in Mumbai. Mumbai has so many places to discover. The city has various dimensions with lots of charms to fall in love with. There are places my friends have shown me both in Jakarta and Mumbai and I would love to show them all here, but I realize that I just don’t have enough time for all. I apologize.
Here is one store, Sanctum, that my friend, Caron, took me recently, in December 2013. Sanctum is “a furniture and lifestyle store specializing in shabby chic, vintage, retro and industrial designs”. I am actually a lazy person who would not go explore unless my friend asks me, so it was great that Caron invited me to check it out.
The name Sanctum has a definition of “a sacred or holy place”. Sanctum also means it is “a place of privacy; a place affording peace and quiet, a peaceful retreat, and sometimes used as a metaphor for a home”. (via) The name, Sanctum, definitely translates their products showcased at their store. I find the naming very clever as sanctum is exactly what I keep in mind when I design our new home in a new country. In that sense, Sanctum Shop is very inviting and inspiring.
When it comes to interior design, I am a big fan of Scandinavian design. Simple, clean, minimalist, contemporary and industrial designs are what I have always been drawn to. At the same time, I have always been attracted to shabby chic, rustic, vintage, and retro styles as well. Sanctum is a store that really intrigued my interest in shabby chic, vintage designs with the way they select items and display in their store. I hope you enjoy seeing what I captured at the store.
