My friend, Amy, introduced MAGNOLIA, a chic furniture store in South Mumbai, to our two other lady friends and myself for furniture shopping. Even from outside of the store looking inside of MAGNOLIA, I could tell that MAGNOLIA would be a stylish store. The store is full of inspirations and temptations to buy something to decorate your home with!
The owner, Maulika Gandhi, was at the store. I asked her if she designed the furniture. To that, she replied yes. Then I asked if she studied design in school. To my surprise, she told me that she was a lawyer! It reminded me of my friend in Jakarta, Mira Noordhoek, the owner of one of my favorite shops in Jakarta, Le Souq. Both Maulika and Mira used to be lawyers by trade and became interior designers and curators of their stores. Both Magnolia and Le Souq have furniture and decorative items in very colorful and eclectic designs that had both traditional and modern twists.
When I was researching for Magnolia to write this post, I saw that one of the expat bloggers in Mumbai, Bombay Jules, whom I started following featured Magnolia. Then I went to her post about Magnolia and realized that I actually visited her post when I was still in Jakarta and thought to myself “Wow, there is a place I would love to go shopping in Mumbai!” I couldn’t believe I was at that store, Magnolia!
How cool would it be to own this set of a bar table and chairs?
I think that by spending some time in MAGNOLIA, you can learn about Maulika’s ideas and styles on how to decorate a home. Walking around in Magnolia felt like flipping through pages in an interior decor magazine in a real life.

Directions Help
The store is on a small street off of Dr. E Moses Marg. There is a sign for Magnolia with a logo on the middle of the street. When you see it, take a left before you pass the sign. The store will be on your left.

Hi Kaho, from your pictures I can see that this store is the kind of store I would love to go into! Those stools made with the bike mechanism – so unique! I would love to own that rocking chair haha – it would go so well with my home interiors! I love seeing your finds even from far away because they are always so lovely.
