This is one of the gifts my girls got from Santa Claus for last Christmas. My friend told me about a handicap center that sells doll house called Red Feather, which is run by Yayasan Wisma Cheshire. This is part of the worldwide NGO, Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD). If you would like to learn more about them, please click either of the names above.
I went to Red Feather shop on behalf of Santa Claus at the beginning of December and I was too late to place an order for Christmas. Apparently they start receiving order from July. They were fully booked. I love the houses they build though. They actually had a gigantic doll house that was sold for Rp. 2 million which is a little over $200. That was much bigger than the size we wanted to buy for our girls and a bit over our Christmas budget, so I had to give it up. The lady who gave me a tour of the store told me that there was another store that sells doll house near them.
I wanted to support the cause, but Red Feather could not accept any more orders for Christmas, so I decided to go to the other place, Para Handycraft. That’s where I found a doll house for our girls.
This doll house was Rp. 400,000 (a little over $40). Including the furniture the cost was only Rp. 500,000 ($53). You can use Barbie dolls for the house. I placed an order and picked up the doll house two weeks later. The owner of this doll shop, I believe, used to work at the Red Feather.
This doll house shop is located very close to Red Feather, Yayasan Wisma Cheshire. The guy, whom I believe is the owner and who took my order is Suheri. If you read Indonesian, here is the write-up about him.

I am not sure if they speak English. I speak basic enough Bahasa Indonesian to communicate with them and tell them what I needed. I received a text message from the shop informing me that the house was completed a day before the doll house was supposed to be completed to be picked up. I am happy with the end result.

And I am glad you got the doll house from the second shop, The link you provided about Suheri, apparently it is a Buddhist Organization, originally from Taiwan, named Tzu Chi. They even have a local TV Station call DAAI TV, in Indonesia. It is a big organization which do a lot of charity work and promotes Buddhism. My mom is a fan of them 🙂 Happy new year!

How’s the doll house? was it neatly made? i need to get one for my daughter’s birthday. I visited few stores at Kebon Jeruk and Antasari but it’s not neatly made, the finishing was so poor, it looks beautiful from far away but it’s not that pretty when you look at it closer.
I am satisfied with how it’s made for the price I paid. I would say that the one made at the red feather was even better and prettier, but the down side of it is that you have to place an order far in advance as they cannot make one fast. What I like about our current one is that Barbie dolls fit in the house, so you don’t have to spend extra money for dolls. The house is very simple and nothing special, but it’s good enough for my daughters.
