Cayenne is a home decor shop in Kemang, Jakarta, Indonesia. I fell in love with this store right away! I laid eyes on cayenne by luck. I was looking for a store for lamps called “Lampu Lampu”. I was looking around from the back seat of the car and spotted this store “cayenne”. It has these cool orange letters on their modern sleek-looking building which totally caught my attention. I didn’t have my camera that day, so later that week, I went back to the store to see what they had. I love their furniture and the way they designed their store. You can find more about the store on their home page. I like to support the local business wherever I live and the beauty of their products definitely adds an incentive to do so.
Kemang seems like the area where you find many trendy shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants. It looks like to me where artists gather. Kemang is the area in the south of Jakarta and is away from the central Jakarta where tall office buildings and ginormous shopping malls are seen. Kemang has a completely different atmosphere from the central Jakarta and I like its chill and unique ambiance. There is one street with a row of shops where order-made furniture is crafted. I will write about this street on another day. I find it a neat area even for tourists. You probably need a whole day to explore Kemang not only because is there so much to see, but also the traffic congestion could slow you down.
This store is located on Jalan Kemang Selatan 8. It’s a small street off of a big street in Kemang and you will see a sign for “Rattan House”.
If you know other cool stores for furniture, cafes or restaurants that you highly recommend in Kemang or in other areas, please feel free to post the names in the comment section. I would love to find out!

I wish I could purchase furniture from nice stores in Jakarta, but it’s actually out of our range! I cannot believe how expensive things are in this city. All the gorgeous furniture cost eye-popping high. I still enjoy window shopping and I hope I can stay like that. Otherwise, our bank account will not survive!

Hi Kaho,
I agree with you about the prices of the furniture here in Jakarta, and sometimes they are not even solid pieces of wood. I’ve a wonderful furniture maker who makes high quality solid antique teak furniture for me. He’s done our dining set and side tables. In 2 weeks he will be delivering my shoe cabinet (with top lights) and console table/hubby’s shoe cabinet/sports equipment storage/luggage storage with a hidden compartment that serves as a charging station. (I like my furniture to do quadruple-duty if possible because we live in a small space and Danni is great in brainstorming custom furniture with me)
See some pics of the dining table and sidetables here: http://thediplomaticwife.wordpress.com/2010/05/31/our-old-teakwood-dining-set-side-tables-are-finally-here/ Danni’s contact details and showroom address are in the bottom of the post as well. Enjoy!
